  1. TALL blog video response:

This was an eye opening message for me. I had really convinced myself that I was a savvy member of the online community, but now I feel more like a moonlighting, though competent visitor. My presence in the physical world far overshadows my contributions to web networks. The dilemma, I believe is that I am pretty competent out here in cyber space, but I most often am "hunting down" my prey, if you will, rather than making myself at home and feeling like this is a place I can constantly find comfort and help. After all, where would any of us professionals be today without the internet? But many cringe at taking it to the level of a Personal Learning Network where we give and take each others thoughts and findings. The analogy of pulling out the tool from the box that meets my immediate need seems all too real.
@ 7:30, he mentions that web presence is not equal to research skills. This struck me because I find it especially relevant that many are using the resources out there but as we say they are visitors and not residents. I agree that the establishments are still teaching most of us to become autonomous researchers who dont rely on each other. Therefore, when we are told that we can network professionally, it is an uncomfortable thing because perhaps we would keep in touch with old friends or family on Facebook, but it doesnt feel like productivity time when we are on Twitter or any of the social networks. It doesnt come naturally, so we must cultivate our comfort levels, until we can truly sprawl out on the PLN couch!
So here is my plan! I now have begun to establish a presence via this class, so I will have to make myself more at home and continue to grow. I feel that a significant factor in my favor here is that I enjoy networking on topics that I am passionate about. I need to find more who are in my specific niche of Physical Education, and coaching because that will also help. The support of this cohort is phenomenal!
